Coding 👾💻

 Hello everyone.

At the start of this term we have been learning more about coding in code.org. First we did our courses to get a start at what coding is. Later after our class started a dance party where you code your own dance party and then vote on whose dance party was the best. Unfortunately I didn't participate on that as i was too busy doing the courses. 

On one of the lessons on code.org was to make a game where you had a conversations with the characters or sprites. I decided to code a conversation with a robot. Warning it might be creepy.

Sophie Pascoe

 Hello Everyone.

This week for P.E we were tasked to study about paralympians and make a slideshow about them showing their achievements and info about them. I decided to study on Sophie Pascoe. For starters she is an Paralympian with a prosthetic leg and she is a swimmer. I worked really hard on making a this slide show. I decided to use a site called Visme instead of using slideshows because I thought it might make it to boring. It was my first time on Visme but it wasn't that complicated.

Watercoloring Flowers 🌸💐🌹 🖌️

 Hello everyone.

This term we have a new subject introduced to us which is Art. We started of by learning how to watercolour and how to use it properly. Of course water colouring involves water so we started of by getting water and got some watercolour paints. We learned some different types of techniques, for example layering, the intensity, Dilution, glazing and etc. We also tried different types of textures to add with water colouring. We experimented with plastic, sponges and also alcohol. 

After we got used to water colouring and knew the basic steps we started making our flowers. A great tip is to start with the lightest colour first and don't paint over the spots you want to keep white. At the start I painted kind of recklessly and painting the darkest colour and then adding the lightest colours next.

Olympics Mascot🦎

 Hello everyone.

As you guys might know the Olympics has been proceeding. Our teacher gave us different kinds of activities involving the Olympics. One of the activities was to design a mascot. Though specifically the activity was to design a mascot for the olympics if New Zealand were the one to host the olympics. I decided to make the mascot based on a tuatara. One of New Zealand's native animals.

Cyberbullying Poster

 Hello everyone.

Last week for outstanding we have been talking about how we can be an outstander. While on the topic of being an outstander we talked about cyberbullying and how it is different to the traditional way of bullying. Normally when someone say bullying, the first thing that you think of is physical bullying. Though cyberbullying is different because this is a type of bullying that happens online. While talking about the differences of the two types of bullying we also got into the consequences that might resolve cyberbullying. 

For example, you can be fined up to $50,000 as an individual although for companies its usually up to $200,000. After we have learnt a lot about cyberbullying we were tasked to create a DLO about cyberbullying.

A Local Hero

 HEllo everyone.

This week in 'Heroes' we have been learning about local heroes. We were to chose some heroes from near disasters that happened locally. Our two choices was either from the 'massive earthquake' or the 'terrorist attack'. After that we then did our research and started making our DLO. Music Through the Decades

 Hello everyone.

This week in 'Counting the Beat' we have been looking through popular genres, songs and musicians through the decade. We had to get into groups, no more than 4 and create a google slide. Each slide has to have a decade between 1900s - 2010s. Each decade's slide had to include an iconic or fashion image, some famous musicians, a new/popular genre that was from that decade. My group decided to choose a theme through the slides. For example: making the background all pastels, adding shade to the images, etc.

Need & Want

 Hello everyone.

This week for inventions we have been learning the differences of needs and wants. Our class and our neighbouring class decided to combine classes and split us into two groups consisting of both the students from the our two combined classes. Before we could spilt the groups up we learnt about what are needs and wants.

 A need is something essential, and you need it to survive. Some of the basic things you might need is food, water and oxygen. A want is something that is considered as something unnecessary. Wants might be something that makes you comfortable but you don't really need to survive. For example: transport, devices and jewellery.  Though sometimes other things are neutral and can be on both sides. For instance a pet can also be a need if considered as helper animals.

My group read 'Fostering Felines' this book is about orphaned kittens and information about them. What I have learnt reading from this book is that every cats' eyes are blue at first and they might change overtime.

Inventing new bizarre Instrument

 Hello everyone.

This week in counting the beat, e are focusing on unusual instruments. These instruments might be a combination of both instruments or make a different kind of sounds from different genres. 

My instrument are from the string and the percussion family. I was inspired by a guitar. It is sometimes used in a percussion way by slamming on the body of the guitar. I decided to do a string instrument with another percussion instrument. I decided to do a harp because it makes a really light and harmonic sound. Though it was difficult for me to think of a light sounded percussion instrument. Then I though of a xylophone it has a pitch sound that can merge with the harp and make a beautiful noise. 

My instrument is called a Xyloharp. I decided to name it this because the instrument is base on wood which is what 'xylo' meant. Xylophones are originally made from wood so I decided to keep its originality. The harp is portable so its not that big. The xylophone is attached to the side and play by your ring and pinkie finger. On those fingers a little xylophone stick is attached on. I also added my cultural pattern on the harp to resemble the creator (Me). 

The instrument will be used for light music as it makes quite relaxing sounds from both instruments.

Believer STOMP project

 Bonjour, everyone.

This week on counting the beat we have been learning about percussion music and what it is. Percussion music is about hitting an object with/against another with a degree of force. There are many instruments that can be used as percussion music, such as drums, gongs, bells, cymbals etc.

We also have been learning about body percussion. Body percussion is an art of striking the body and many different ways and it makes a various of sound. 

We then have to get into a group and choose a song to add beats in it. Our group's instruments are unique compared to others. Thanks to our wonderful classmate who brought kitchen supplies for our group to make various sounds. The music we decided to add beats to was, 'Believer'. There were many different tools we used for making music. Some of them were an abacus, a long stick, a wooden spoon and our feet.

 Hello everyone,

This week in hurumanu1 we have been focusing on writing an email. The email is only pretend because you don't want to disturb your "hero" or they might already passed. Of course when writing to our heroes we don't want to be embarrassed about your writing because of you mistakes. So we had to know what we needed to get better at for writing. We had a little bit of practice by working on a narrative task about a pretend hero. After knowing what we needed to work on for our email we then start to write a message to our hero. My email concluded many questions about their actions.

How the Internet Works 😯

Hola everyone. For This weeks reading follow up, the kiwi group (our group) are learning about the internet. Our teacher has set up some work for us to do. Our 'must do' activities was to make A screencastify of how the internet works. For our  'choose one activity', i had to choose one out of three. I chose to do 'design an emoji and explain what emotion it is showing.
