Discussion:
Why does chilli burn your mouth?
A chilli has this oil-based molecule called capsaicin. It gets released to your saliva and bins onto the receptors in your mouth and tongue. Which then triggers the receptors to send signals to your brain, thinking you are currently burning.
Why did the milk reduce the burn?
Milk mostly contains casein, which i learnt in the plastic milk experiment. The casein helps wash off the capsaicin in your tongue or mouth. Think of it like soap washing off grease.
This term our kete is all about money or otherwise called business enterprise. In our wananga we started of learning about money and how to manage money in a site called Banquer. After starting with Banquer we had quiz questions on the site and if you had answered them correctly you would earn money. We were learning about words like expenses and income, we started working on how to pay bills in the site.
Speaking of income, we had to write down what we thought it meant.
It basically means getting money. This money could be earned from the bank your job, an allowance, etc. Getting a job is probably a smart thing to do because you can earn income daily depending on when and how you work.
We also thought about what kind of jobs we would have for our class.
Today our class worked on reading plus again. This time I got a combo after reading a book about chess and a story about a diamond necklace. I think reading books that I like are very important to get a higher percentage. Though where I was reading it was very distracting and noisy.
Today is the first day of term 4 and we are back to starting on reading plus. I think I got better over the holidays because I got a 100% on my reading comprehension. So far I'm doing okay in Reading plus. I read a story about people who perform speeches and about ice cream.
